Synopsis

Sivanageswara Rao's forthcoming movie 'Mr & Mrs Sailaja Krishna Murthy' will be dramatically different, he says.

Rao last directed Dhanalaxmi I Love You and was out of the film circuit for two years. Though its original Hindi version Hera Pheri was successful, the Telugu film didn’t live upto expectations. Was that the reason for keeping a low profile? “No. It was just my decision to change my style. I have directed so many entertainers like One By Two, Pattukondi Chooddam, Money, Money Money, Hands Up, Sisindri, Lucky Chance, etc. All of them belong to the comedy genre. After Dhanalaxmi I Love You, I wanted to change my style so I decided to wait for the right time and the right story. The reason for the failure of my last film was the wrong casting of stars, nothing else.”

What is the change in film making? “It is not something drastically different. The content still revolves around comedy because I love the subject. But the treatment of the subject is different and in keeping with today’s trends. Making people laugh these days is not an easy job anymore! I had to re-invent myself and infuse life into the subject.”

Is that a surefire formula for success? “There is no guarantee that one genre will work and another won’t. The change in my style is more than just cosmetic. There are other factors too. Like the appealing story which is the strength of the film. Even the title is intriguing isn’t it? Sivaji and Laila are shown as husband and wife but they aren’t married! The reasons for it and the hilarious situations they get into forms the crux of the story,” he says. Any reason for bringing back Laila who hasn’t been around for some time? “Her looks and figure were perfect for the character. The role is jovial and she suited it perfectly. She really got under the skin of the character,” he says. Rao is certain that the formula will work. Let’s see what the audience has to say.
