Debutant director Jaya has choosen love track for her film 'Chantigadu'. Baladitya, who had 50 films to his credit as child artiste was roped in as hero, while a Nellore girl Suhasini paired up with him as heroine for 'Chantigadu'. As a whole, the film is tolerable, but the narration is dead slow.

Story Chanti (Baladitya) is the only son of Savitramma (Saranya), who works in the temple kitchen. He has four close friends. Chanti writes good poetry. Sitamahalakshmi [Suhasini] is the daughter of Reddappa [Ahuti Prasad], a landlord in that village. He will not spare anyone who did not listen to him and had almost 50 murders to his credit. Reddappa loves his daughter so much and he employs tutors for his daughter until Class X to avoid her going to school. After Sita completes her school education, she pleads with her father to allow her to go to college in the nearby city. Chanti and his friends, who fail in their first attempt, write instant exam and pass in first class. All these guys also join the college. While going to the college, Sita happens to see the book containing songs of Chanti and develops fascination towards his songs and him. In the process she falls in love with Chanti.

Once the friends of Chanti, mistakenly bring Sita instead of another girl. Fearing danger to their lives, all the friends escape but Chanti remains with Sita in a boathouse. Reddappa's men start search for Sita and find her along with Chanti. When they were about to attack him, Chanti jumps into Godavari along with Sita and swims ashore far away from their village. Chanti fears that Reddappa might harm his mother, decides to handover Sita to Reddappa. At that time, Sita's brother-in-law Kanakam (Rajiv Kanakala), who kills Sita's mother for preventing him from marrying her in his childhood, releases from jail after serving a 14-year-term. He comes to the village and demands back his property and Sita as well. Reddappa opposes it. But Kanakam lures all the henchmen of Reddappa and goes in search of Sita. Finally, Kanakam finds Sita at the Pushkar Ghat. But, he demands Sita to jump into bonfire to prove her chastity. Chanti saves her and hands Kanakam over to police. In the climax Reddappa realises the true love between Sita and Chanti and unites them.
Music
Songs by Vandemataram are fine and choreographed beautifully.
Performance
Telugu girl, Suhasini is very cute in looks and did a commendable job. Baladitya needs to put up some weight, though his body language and performance are okay. Comedy track by villain, Rajiv Kanakala is good.
