Chatrapathi is a mass entertainer which has loads of mother sentiment also. Prabhas in chatrapati has given a brilliant performance. His manly looks and a very competent performance are the highlight of the movie. The story is loosely based on Hollywood classic, Scarface. Fights by Peter Hynes are great. Cinematography by Senthil, dialogues by M Ratnam are impressive. Rajamouli has narrated the story with utmost conviction. He is the director in form and everything seems to be going right for him. First half of the movie is mass oriented and second half has high dose of sentiment.

Story:
The story starts with a flashback, Shivaji, Ashok and their mother (Bhanu Priya) live in Sri Lankan coastal village. Ashok envies his stepbrother Shivaji, with whom his mother is more attached to. They were forced to migrate to India from the natives of Sri Lanka. At that time Shivaji estranges from their family and lands in Vizag. 12 years after the incident Shivaji (Prabhas) working for a mafia don Bhaji Rao Vizag port area. He along with the refugees live as a slaves to Bhaji Rao. After digesting humiliation for years, Shivaji revolts against the mafia don and kills him off and brings the refugees from the rut of a life. He becomes a leader and brings cheerfulness to his the colony. On the parallel, his grown up brother Ashok (played by Shafi) also lives in the same colony and sabotages his brothers plan to meet his mother. The rest of the film is how Shiaji meets his mother in the end.

Performance:
Prabhas has given an extraordinary performance. There is a unique style and macho charm in his screen presence. He is extremely good in emotional scenes. His dancing abilities have improved tremendously compared to his earlier films. Shriya does not have much role to play in this film except for dancing in the songs. Bhanu Priya is brilliant as mother. Shafi is OK as over-jealous brother. Narendra Jha is impressive as Bhano Ji. Kota has got another well-etched role after Athadu. Pradeep Rawat is good. Venu Madhav is simply superb in Aparichitudu rip-off episode. Jayaprakash Reddy did another cameo in a hilarious scene. Sekhar - who acted as buddy of Prabhas - is exceptionally good. Mumaith Khan and Arti Agarwal sizzled in two item songs.

Music:
Music by Keeravani is an asset. Songs 'A Vachhi B Pai Vaale', 'Gala Gala Gala', 'Summama Suriyaa' stand out.
