'Dongodu' is a routine movie with nothing new in the subject. Director Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao has done an impressive job but the story of the movie is a big backdrop. Raviteja as a comedy hero did justice to his role, though looks horrible with mustache.

Coming to story, Meesala Madhava (Raviteja) is a thief, he has an elder brother and a sister. Madhava's brother is brought up by his maternal uncle and later marries his daughter. Hence Madhava had to forego his studies to look after his father and sister (Varsha). Madhava's father borrows money from a local moneylender Rayudu (Tanikella Bharani) by giving his house papers. Madhava needs money for his sister's marriage, so he tries to trap Rukmini (Kalyani) the daughter of Rayudu, into love to get his house papers from Rayudu. After a couple of incidents, Rukmini falls in love with him.

Later, a new SI gets appointed in the town. Rayudu throws a party to the SI and brings him in his grip. In order to separate Madhava and Rukmini, Rayudu hatches a plan and gets Madhava arrested, when he was about to fix an alliance for his sister. He files a suit for the auction of Madhava's house. To save his house, Madhava has to deposit Rs 1 lakh in the court. Madhava's would be brother-in-law arranges that money and pleads with him not to disclose that he had given him that money. The same night the idol in the temple goes missing. Everyone start suspecting Madhava. On learning this, Madhava, with the help of Rukmini and his friend (Jeeva) catch the real thief who is none other than the SI and present him before people. Rayudu realises his mistake and performs the marriage of Madhava's sister and later weds his daughter to Madhava.
Everyone did justice to their roles. Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao as headconstable, Ali as a drunkard lineman, Varsha as the sister of Raviteja did commendable jobs. Kalyani is beautiful to look at. Music by Vidyasagar is average. Comedy is routine and cheap in some places. Choreography is not impressive. Overall it is an average movie.
