'Jai' is a sports-based film on patriotism. Director Teja used sports as the backdrop to raise the anti-Pak sentiments. The terrorists in Pakistan might have many more agendas. A mere challenge by a youth to defeat their player is nothing for them in real life, which was shown as the only agenda on the celluloid. The first half of the film is nice to watch till the director established love between the hero and heroine. But the attempt to imbibe the patriotism in the film gave the film a different twist and kept a break to the pace of the film.

StoryJayaram alias Jai (Navadeep) is the only son of a mighty businesswoman (Ayesha Jhulka), who always moves around the world on business deals. His father is a 'Major' in the Army, who died in action fighting with Pakistan forces. Jai is deprived of her love but only listens her voice over phone. He is a good basketball player and Farah (Santoshi) somehow gets attracted towards him. Being an innocent and good boy, another girl also likes him but Jai did not accept her love. So, she complains against Jai to the principal, who happens to be her father and gets him debarred from the college. At the instance of her mother, Jai joins a college in the old city, which is full of Muslims and rough characters, in which Farah is also a student. Jai had to face Khan in a fight in the college and gets injured badly. Farah takes him to their place, where her father Mustafa (Tanikella Bharani) runs a bakery and requests her father to teach him boxing and in return, Jai will teach her and her friends the subjects. Farah's brother did not like this. But Mustafa gives training to Jai in boxing. Jai declares his love towards Farah and attacks Khan and defeats him in the fight. When they are celebrating the defeat of Khan, Jai gets a call from his mother that she wanted to conduct a boxing championship between India and Pakistan and tells him to handle the project. Mustafa stands as a referee to the championship. During the fight, the Pakistan fighter defeats Indian boxer through a foul play. But the judges declare him as winner. Then that fighter 'Saquib' makes derogatory remarks against India, which irks Jai, who challenges him that he would defeat him in just 56 days.

On being learnt that Jai is going strong enough to defeat Saquib, the Pakistan ultras led by Lashkar-e-Toiba chief Moulana Masood Asar could not digest it and decide to thwart his attempt and creates terror in the Old City. Then Mustafa and Jai get alert. However, the terrorists attack Jai and injure him grievously. As a result, one of his ribs gets broken and pierces into his lung. At the same time, the ligament in his right hand also gets damaged and if he gives a punch it will spell doom to his right hand and may lead to amputation, the doctors warn. Unwilling to accept defeat, Jai decides to fight with his left hand. Masood Asar gets infuriated and sends his men to kill Mustafa, who was giving training to Jai. Coming to know this, Farah's brother, who was an agent of Lashkar-e-Toiba, pleads with Asar not to harm his father. Though Asar swears by Allah, that he would not cause harm, he did not stand by his word and the terrorists makes a bid on Mustafa's life. Annoyed at this development, Mustafa's son decides to give training to Jai and prepares him for the competition. In the climax, Jai defeats Saquib. In his message to Masood Asar he declares that India is great and he is proud to say that he is an Indian.
Music All the tunes are quite melodious and their picturisation is also fine
Performance Navadeep perfectly fits the role of Jai. His charm and innocence suited the character. Santoshi also looked good in some angles and her performance is excellent at all times. Teja was able to extract fantastic performance from all the artistes. The boy who played the 'Sunil Shetty' character gave an excellent comedy and would definitely join the bandwagon of our comedians. Tanikella Bharani also gave life to his character.
