'Johnny' Pawan Kalyan's much awaited movie has finally hit the theaters. The movie is a decent debut by Pawan Kalyan as a director. But the movie lacks good storyline. The highlights of the film were the fights composed by Vijay and international Ridley's team.
Coming to story, 'Johnny' (Pawan Kalyan) is martial arts teacher and maintains Antony cafe to earn his living. His mom (Geeta) dies in his childhood due to a disease. He walks out of his millionnaire dad's (Raghuvaran) house to live on his own. Johnny meets Geethanjali (Renu Desai) who is a teacher at a school for the mentally challenged. She is a simple middle class girl who has no one. They fall in love and get married. Soon after their marriage they come to know that Geethanjali is suffering from acute leukemia (advanced stage of blood cancer). Doctors suggest them to go to Mumbai for a treatment at J.P.Memorial hospital.
Johnny goes to his father before leaving for Mumbai for some money assistance, which was promptly rejected by his step-mom So, with the money which he saved in his lifetime, Johnny takes Geeta to Mumbai. He pays all the 60,000 to Rs 70,000 and left with no money to save Geeta. Thats when he meets Pataan (Ali) who takes him to an arena where boxing fights go on daily and which will fetch him enough money for the treatment - each fight he wins he get 25 thousand and for the fight that he loses he gets 10 thousand. One day, Geeta's condition turns serious and the doctors suggest bone-marrow transplant which needs at least Rs 2 lakh. So Johnny fights his way to earn the money and saves his wife's life.
Pawan looks good in the get up of Johnny. He gave his best especially in the fight sequences. Renu Desai looks decent and slips into the role perfectly. M.S.Narayana and Mallikarjun have done justice to the roles they played. Ali played a good role as a friend to the hero.
First half of the film runs on a slow love track and second half is sentimental. Photography by Shyam Palav and Chota K Naidu is impressive. Comedy is OK. Dialogue delivery is slow and in some cases it is not audible due to 'On the spot dubbing'. Music by Ramana Gogula is impressive. To sum up 'Jhonny' has style but no mass appeal.
