JD Chakravarthy is back on the silver screen after a long gap with 'Kaasi'. It is a routine love story. As there is nothing much to talk about the story, the director had to depend only on the screenplay to move the story further and hence it has become too slow and the audiences felt bored due to the nagging of prolonged scenes with each scene runs more than five minutes.

Story Kaasi (JD Chakravarthy) is an orphan and vagabond. He has three friends (Sivareddy, Venumadhav and Uttej). With their help, he used to sell tickets in black-market. GK is an industrialist and he has a daughter called Anjali. He also brings up another girl, daughter of his brother, as he and his wife die in a plane crash. GK loves both the girls equally. GK's foster daughter loves a boy and tries to elope with him. Kaasi helps the henchman of GK to find out the boy and the girl for a paltry Rs 5,000. At that time, Kaasi finds that GK was ready to shed Rs 25 lakh to get rid of the boy, which the other did not accept. Anjali hates Kaasi for disrupting their love. However, the other girl gives him Rs 10,000 to save her and her lover. Kaasi honestly returns Rs 5,000 given by GK and takes away the boy with him and unites with his love.

To earn money the easy way, Kaasi makes Anjali to fall in love with him, by pretending that he stopped smoking, boozing and other such bad habits. He chalks out a plan with his friends that he will create a situation where Anjali comes with him to elope and Kaasi gives a small chase and gets caught by GK's men. When GK had offered Rs 25 lakh for his foster daughter, Kaasi was sure that he would offer at least double the amount, which he wanted to accept readily and leave Anjali. But his plans fail and Anjali takes him to Kolkata. On learning that Anjali brought Rs 3 lakh with her, he tries to rob that money and finally gets it. However, he realises the value of true love through a girl, who was cheated and was sold in a brothel. Kaasi calls up GK and tells him to take away Anjali. GK takes her away, but Anjali escapes from them and returns to their house. Kaasi realises that she could not live without him. In order to save their lives first, both Kaasi and Anjali try to escape but get caught by GK and his men. In a bid to escape from them, Anjali falls into a deep valley, Anjali goes into coma. Kaasi and Anjali get separated. Kaasi goes to Benaras, as Anjali once tells him that visiting Benaras is her lifetime wish. Finally they meet at Benaras and the film ends on a happy note with GK accepting their love.

Performance
JD Chakravarthy gave good performance. The role was tailormade for him. Keerthi Chawla also showed good histrionics and danced well. Comedy by Uttej, Sivareddy, Venumadhav, Brahmanandam, AVS is okay.
