Lakshmi Kalyanam

Marriage Of Action And Torture

A story of two families and two villages enmity and how a 'Kalyanam' brings everybody together, albeit with lots of bloodshed and boredom. This is what Teja has churned out as his latest fare called 'Lakshmi Kalyanam'. A less than mediocre stuff, that drags, tests the patience of the audience and with the start of the second of the film it even questions the viewers: why are they still watching this film?

This film is a good example of all the bad things placed in one platter and served to a hungry person. Anybody who has bought the ticket and entered the theatre will have nothing to do but to curse himself for having chosen this. Teja seems like 'spent force'. He seems to have exhausted all his ideas and the ability to present the story is interesting manner. It is better for him to take a break from direction for sometime and get back to do the job he knows better: cinematography. The performances of Kalyan Ram and the new face Kajal contribute nothing to the film with their acting abilities. Overall the film that doesn't have head or tail and worth giving a miss.

The story
The best part is Teja explains the film in one minute sequence wherein a sorcerer tells us the story. And after having understood it if you still decide to sit back and watch how the story progresses, than you have decided to torture yourself go ahead! Kalyan Ram and Kajal are relatives and are in love with each other. Her father Shinde is against it. He tries to stop their love. Meanwhile there is fight between Shinde and Avinash family for more than 20 years. This fight has led to the fight between villages as well. No person from both the villages enters another village.

Avinash's son Ajay (ala Gopichand in 'Jayam') sees Kajal at a college and falls in love with her. To marry her, Ajay kills his wife. From here the fight starts. Meanwhile Kajal's father fixes her marriage with comedian Harshavardhan, despite knowing the fact that Kalyan Ram and Kajal are in love and also that Ajay is in love with his daughter. From here the story takes a gory turns and twists and it is finally our hero who manages to get hold of Lakshmi's hand.

The analysis
This is like yet another Teja film where the hero heroine are in love with each other, but the problem arises with the villain who is also in love with the heroine. The triangle love story is the recurring theme of Teja’s films, and this film too is based on the same old theme. But this time you are in for a shock because the narrative style (there is nothing like this!) is very bad. The performers are not innocent (like his earlier films); they look like matured adults. In fact Kajal looks like a woman in age of mid 30s.

Teja seems to have a perverted liking to blood and killings. This film also like 'Nuvvu Nenu', 'Jayam', 'Jai', 'Nijam', etc has lots of those gory and bloody scenes, which are sickening to watch. His cheap comedy is repeated in the film. His sidekick Raghu Babu ridicules Shinde the main villain and this looks very lewd and meaningless. All the regular elements of showing first 10 minutes in black and white, the cheap comedy, the dirty looking eunuchs, etc are all there to entertain or torture you… you can call it as you like.

Nothing else to mention, the acting by all is bad; the technical departments have nothing to add to this torture except that they could maintain what the director wanted them to do.
