'Palanati Brahmanaidu' has a successful combination of B Gopal and Balakrishna. However, poor storyline and improper screenplay played truant, making the film a mockery. The film could be treated above average in cities, while it could be a hit in small towns and villages because of good songs, their choreography and action scenes. Improper screenplay, bailed out the scenes.
Coming to story, Bhavani Prasad (Balakrishna) is a popular and powerful person in Karampudi. Brahmanaidu is his ancestor and he was said to be his heir. He develops enmity with an MP (Mukesh Rushi), who detains Bhavani's sister Kalyani (Sujitha) to get her married with his brother as he liked her just before she gets married to someone else. But Bhavani bashes them up and rescues her. Shruti (Arthi Agarwal) is the friend of Bhavani's sister almost loses her heart to Bhavani. She, in fact, was to marry Sanagala (Prithvi), who stays in the US. Once Shruti was forced to stay with Bhavani for more than six hours. So Sanagala puts her to virgin test. So, she hates him and decides to marry Bhavani. When they were about to marry, a girl called Shiva Nagewari (Sonali Bendre) reaches to the place and shoots Bhavani.
In the flashback, Shiva Nageswari is the daughter of Nagayalanka Narasimha Rayudu (Jayaprakash Reddy). Some fellow writes love letter to her and her paternal uncles bash up another boy called Ramdas (Jatin) by mistake. He almost loses his spine and lies on the bed. Ramdas is the son of Bhavani's nearest follower. Irked over the incident, Bhavani warns Rayudu and insists that Shiva Nageswari should marry Ramdas and serve him all through her life. But Shiva Nageswari plays a trick and gets Rambabu marry another girl. She develops vengeance against Bhavani and demands him that he should marry her as Rambabu was already married. Finally after a lot of drama, Rayudu and the MP hatch a plan and get Rambabu killed and fix Bhavani in the case. However, Rambabu's father (Chalapati Rao) plays a trick and proves that his son died not in the hands of Bhavani, but by the wicked elements. Finally, Shiva Nageswari realises the greatness of Bhavani and leaves him to Shruti.
Sonali Bendre gave an excellent performance as Siva Nageswari. She excelled in giving a venomous role. Especially her body language in emotional scenes is worth watching. Comparatively Arthi Agarwal had a lesser role and she had to satisfy with just four songs, including one with the combination of Sonali Bendre. Neither Mukesh Rushi character nor Jayaprakash Reddy's role were powerful. Though it was widely publicised during the shooting that the film has six chases, they were not chases but rallies. The cockfight under the direction of Raju is worth watching. The director used good graphics in that fight. As a whole, the first half of the film is just a time-pass, while the story picks up in the second half.
